My Website for Ramblings is Launched

So, the secret is out: jordypops.me is officially live!

I’ll be honest, I had my heart set on the .com domain, but apparently, someone else beat me to the punch and snagged it. It’s sitting out there in the digital ether, sort of empty. So, I pivoted to .me. Honestly? I like it better. It feels personal—like a digital living room where I’ve finally kicked my shoes off and started rambling.

A quick heads-up for the tech-averse: Please just type "www.jordypops.me" directly for now. I expect, my hosting gods will be a bit finicky, and if you don't add the 'www.' prefix, sometimes the server could get a little confused and throws a digital tantrum (an error page). You may have to add 'www.': if that predicament occurs like I'm expecting it to. This will only last for a short time until I can re-master configuring it properly.

Now, you might be thinking, "Jordan, wait—didn’t you have that other site? The fancy one?"

Yes! jordaneves.com is still very much a thing. Think of that site as my highlight reel. That’s the gallery; it’s where I curate my best creative writing, the polished prose, and the high-resolution imagery that I’m actually proud of. It’s the, "Sunday best", version of my brain.

jordypops.me, on the other hand, is the messy, unfiltered, daily version of my brain.

If jordaneves.com is a gallery, Jordy Pops is the back-of-the-napkin sketches, the 2:00 AM thoughts, the, "ask me anything", tangents, and the endless, glorious rambling that doesn’t fit into a fancy curated website. I shall talk and talk here, and some nuanced versions may appear on jordaneves.com.

So, bookmark both. Go to jordaneves.com when you want to be inspired (beware though, it's adult rated), and come to my .me when you want to hang out. Let’s get to talking.

I’ve Lost One of the CNAMEs to This Site

There is a very specific, low-grade terror known only to people who tinker with DNS settings. It starts with innocent ambition. You aren't trying to re-write the source code of the internet; you just want your website to look professional. You want a visitor to type myawesomesite.com—nice, clean, naked—instead of dragging the cumbersome baggage of www.myawesomesite.com everywhere they go. So, you log into your domain registrar. You start moving the digital furniture around. You add A-records here and there, and you fiddle with the CNAMEs—those invisible digital signposts that tell the sprawling infrastructure of the web, “Hey, when someone asks for this address, point them over yonder”. Somewhere in the middle of this arcane ritual, amidst a sea of alpha-numeric strings that look like they were generated by an angry cat walking across a keyboard, it happens. A checkbox gets unchecked. DNS records get deleted as the idea to temporarily re-direct to another one of your sites em...

A.I. Rejects My Bank Statements

There is a specific, modern kind of purgatory reserved for those of us navigating the gears of the Department for Work and Pensions or merely receiving mental health support. It is a landscape defined by blue-light headaches, the silent judgment of 'to-do' lists, and the mechanical chirping of apps that are supposed to make life easier but often just act as high-tech gatekeepers. Lately, my life has been a series of, "reviews". First, the Universal Credit claim review—a process that feels less like a check-in and more like a digital colonoscopy. Then, the job coaching appointments. There’s a certain performance art to these meetings; we both know I’ve been through the ringer before, and we both know the script, yet we play our parts with weary diligence. It was through this cycle that I was introduced to the 'Job and Talent' app. Un-necessarily, it’s the future: streamlined, efficient, and direct, although asking for a lot. I was aiming for a role at the J...
